Children from less advantaged backgrounds are set to experience university-style learning from Ð԰ɵç̨ Leicester (Ð԰ɵç̨)’s postgraduate research students.
Ð԰ɵç̨ has teamed up with to run from the autumn term. The Brilliant Club has been working with schools and universities across the UK for more than a decade. It was created to support students facing the greatest challenges in accessing university and who are at risk of missing out on the life-changing opportunities that come from higher education.
More than 1,000 postgraduate researchers are already working in schools around the UK thanks to the Brilliant Club’s Scholars Programme. Postgraduate researchers who successfully apply to become a Brilliant Club tutor receive expert training to develop teaching skills and learn how best to communicate their research areas non-specialist audiences. They are paid for their time, get vital teaching experience and boost their employability post-study.

She said: “Ð԰ɵç̨ is delighted to be partnering with The Brilliant Club through their innovative Scholars Programme. This programme will further strengthen our work as an empowering civic university, striving to ensure pupils from the least advantaged backgrounds in our region can access higher education, and importantly, succeed once they are there.
“In addition, this programme offers a range of exciting researcher development opportunities for our PhD students, providing much sought-after teaching experience through paid placements in local schools.”
Dr Natalie Day, Director of University Partnerships at The Brilliant Club said: “The Brilliant Club are thrilled that Ð԰ɵç̨ has come on-board as a partner on The Scholars Programme. "At the same time, Ð԰ɵç̨ researchers will develop critical skills and experience for academic careers or inter-sector mobility, while contributing meaningfully to the local community by developing the next generation’s critical thinking skills and preparing them for their next steps. We look forward to sharing the impact of this first year of partnership”
