Social work

The Social Work Research group is developing a programme based on effective partnerships with local, regional and national organisations concerned with effective practice in social care.

We have a particular focus on work with carers, and the experiences of certain groups who encounter discrimination or disadvantage in their access to or use of appropriate services.

At the core of all our work is a belief that understanding the lives of people who use services is a fundamental requirement of high quality research to inform improvements to the services they receive and the quality of their lives.

Key concerns

The key areas that the group is concerned with are:

  • Carers: their experiences, relationships and expectations of public services
  • Young people, youth justice, children's rights and models of good practice.
